At the start of class on 9/7, BUS 101 students will sign up with a Peer Mentor.  The Peer Mentors will be joining us in class on that day. The Peer Mentors are here to help you be successful in school! They also will let you know about events on campus for the on-campus activities write-ups.

Introducing… your Peer Mentors!

My name is Ben Martinez and I am a 21 year old senior majoring in Management, graduating in only 3 ½ years. I am a nice, funny, easy going student who enjoys learning and overall having a fun time. I aspire to have a career in either sports management or information technology, but I am a well-rounded individual and can learn anything quick. From my time here at the university, I have learned that I love helping people. I am always willing to help anyone and even if I do not know how to fix the problem, I’m sure I know someone who can.  I look forward to connecting with you in the future.

My name is Shelby Sorensen. I grew up in Reno, Nevada. I am currently a senior studying Information Systems. I’m involved in Peer Mentors, Delta Sigma Pi, and Students in Free Enterprise and play an active role in all. I’ve held an internship with Industrial Properties in Reno helping them with social media and setting up computers in the office. I have also interned at REI Drilling in Salt Lake City, Utah. I built two of their websites and did IT work for employees. As of the end of the Summer, I have worked on building a total of four websites.

My name is Lyndsey Bohall. I am a junior majoring in International Business with a minor in Spanish. After graduating, I am considering law school, but my ultimate goal is to go into the sports industry. Eventually, I hope to work for FIFA putting on the World Cup. In college, I’ve been involved in quite a few different clubs and organizations; for example, I am a Business Scholar Leader, the Vice President of Finance for Sigma Kappa Sorority, the Vice President of Business Student Council, and I have been a part of the Nevada Women’s Lacrosse team. Outside of school, I have been an AmeriCorp VISTA and an intern for Reno-Tahoe Open of the PGA TOUR. Currently, I am a student worker for the College of Business. In my free time, I like to snowboard, watch my favorite sports teams including Nevada, of course, and spend time with my friends.

Hello, my name is Cody Heimerdinger and I am a student at the University of Nevada, Reno studying accounting. I recently graduated with my Bachelors in accounting and am now seeking my Masters in order to take and pass the CPA exam to become a Certified Public Accountant. I am and have been involved and honored in many organizations on campus such as, Delta Sigma Pi, Beta Alpha Psi, the Residence Hall Association, the National Residence Hall Honorary, and the Golden Key International Honor Society. I have been inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma honorary, representing the top 10% of high-achieving GPA students in the College of Business. I have also been recognized and honored with the Outstanding Senior Award of the College of Business! Within the community, I am involved in the Nevada Society of CPAs as a student member. With everything I am involved in, I have shown an extraordinary level of commitment, dedication, teamwork, and leadership. I enjoy leadership opportunities, as well as, networking and meeting other people. My other interests include community service, traveling, mission trips, skiing, hiking, and swimming.

My name is Tehani Guieb. I grew up in Kailua-Kona , Hawaii . I work in the Student Success Center at the College of Business and I am one of the newest additions to the Wolf Pack Cheerleading team as a flier. I’m 19 years old and a sophomore studying accounting. I currently aspire to become a Certified Public Accountant. I’m a nice, easy-going student who works very hard to give 100% to everything I do. I enjoy being outdoors, hanging out with my friends, living an active lifestyle and just having a good time.

My name is Rachel Fransen. I am a senior with an expected graduation date of May 2013, and I am dual majoring in Marketing and Management. I grew up in Minden, Nevada and decided to stick close to home for college. Upon completing my freshman year here at UNR, I decided I needed a little more adventure so I spent the summer of 2010 studying abroad with USAC (UNR’s study abroad program) in Bilbao, Spain. Spain forced me to get out of my comfort zone, become fluent in Spanish, and learn to adapt to another culture. I feel that it is a big part of who I am today and will always be one of the greatest experiences of my life. I am still involved with USAC in recruitment and alumni events, and in order to get more involved with the College of Business I joined the professional business fraternity, Delta Sigma Pi, and I volunteer for the Peer Mentor Program. After graduation I plan to move to a larger city and pursue a career in Management.

My school involvement has helped me network with professionals, develop my leadership abilities, and meet many peers within the College of Business.  I joined the Peer Mentor program to help students become better acquainted in the College of Business. I will be helping out with the introductory business course throughout this upcoming fall semester. My goal is guide the students for their first semester of college and to prepare them for the upcoming years.

From my time at the University, I have learned to always strive for excellence, doing this will allow you to grow as a person and succeed in all the University has to offer. Outside of school I just finished my summer internship with The Reno-Tahoe Open and currently work in logistics for United Parcel Service. I look forward to meeting with you and as always GO PACK!

My name is Nick Mitchell, and I am from Auburn, California. I’m an incoming sophomore this year, and am hoping to declare myself a Business Management major with Psychology minor by the end of the year. I am a very active person whether it’s within the College of Business, the Honors Program, Greek Life, or athletics. I was literally just in the position of incoming freshman and so I know just how daunting a prospect it can be, and would be happy to help in any way possible.

My name is Ziad Rashdan, an Economics and Finance major.  I am going into my third year at the University of Nevada.  I really enjoy being involved and being active.  I currently am the Business Student Council President, a senator for the College of Business, and I am involved in many other organizations in the college: Delta Sigma Pi, Peer Mentors, Omicron Delta Epsilon, Financial Planning Association and this fall I plan to rush a social fraternity. Outside of extra-curricular activities I enjoy hanging out with my friends and family, whether it is watching movies or just vegging out on the couch.  Professionally I plan to get a job in Financial Analysis, I would like to either end up in the California or Texas, but I would be happy staying in Nevada.  I look forward to meeting all of you through-out this semester and hopefully I can provide some good incite about college.

My name is Jose Lopez.  I will be graduating May of 2013 with a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration with dual majors in Finance and Economics.  After graduation I plan on becoming a Marine Corps. Officer after which I plan to become a financial advisor.  I attended three different high schools before graduating and am a first person in my entire family to go to college so I know the difficulties of entering an unknown environment.  I am glad you chose the University of Nevada, Reno as this is my home away from home and am sure you will feel the same.  I look forward to helping you through your first year of college in any way that I can.
